Chinese Artist ‘Chen Honghzu’

1 07 2010
Chen Honghzu is part of the “Post 80s” generation of Chinese Artists that are beginning to enter the market. She was born in 1982, Chongqing, China and graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Academy, B.A. in Oil Painting.
The Post 80s’ ideals, insights and thoughts are vastly different than their earlier predecessors because they have grown up in a different China. China opened up to the world in the 1970s. Therefore the “Post-80s” generation grew up with the Internet, expendable cash and Pop-culture.
The Beijing they live in is an international Mecca where anything you can conjure up exists.
The “Post 80s” generation are “only children” because of China’s strict
enforcement of the “one child policy.” Their parents might have suffered during the Cultural Revolution, but they themselves are unaffected by Mao and the events that transpired. Many Artists that were born in the 1970s or 1960s use Mao or Cultural Revolution themes in their works because that period in Chinese history directly affected them.
